Nice to see someone under the age of 40 running.

Not a football fan? Go see George Bernard Shaw's Candida tomorrow!
Submitted by yack host on January 21, 2012 - 15:10

Hate the sound of screaming sports fanatics? Head to Bennett Hall on Sunday at 3PM, right when the AFC championship game is set to kick off.
I saw the show last night and it was smart, funny and full of great exchanges. Shaw's ability to strike at the tensions between men and women and other men is amazing.
In addition to Sunday's show there is a show tonight at 7:30, plus three shows next week, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Don't miss this amazing production, which is slated to travel to Scotland, New Orleans, Los angeles and other venues worldwide later this year.

YACK going dark on the 18th in protest of SOPA and PIPA
Submitted by yack host on January 17, 2012 - 22:42
Tomorrow, YACK will look like this.

Here's my thing. I'm a writer. A content creator. And I think stealing someone's intellectual property and content is wrong. Dead wrong. And i do my damndest to make sure that users of this site respect the copyright of others.
But the idea of the government being able to censor sites that contain pirated material is just plain wrong. This kind of action could potentially shut down some of the best sites in the internet. It's heavy handed. And it takes the power away from the people who run websitesites like this one.

Shaw's comedy about marriage and relationships resonates today as it did when it was written. Go see it. It opens on my birthday.

There will be a continuous reading of Moby Dick at the Atheneum, January 21st and 22nd. Different chapters will be read by different people. I've already got my assigned chapters. Hope they have coffee.
Contact the amazing Amy Jeness with additional questions.

Common Sense Nantucket is not using any
Submitted by yack host on December 23, 2011 - 18:41
In a hastily errected web site, a group calling themselves Common Sense Nantucket has made claims about wind power that are both exaggerated and unproven. They say that wind nacell fire is a risk. But what they do not say is that the risk is incredbly remote. They also state that wind turbines cause illness. There is no scientific basis for this statement.
Yeah, I get it. You don't want to look at what will be a very large windmill at the dump. Okay. Fine. But let's not go and make things up about the proposed turbine.
Here are some things that are not made up:

Download: Parking Garage Talking Points
Submitted by yack host on November 30, 2011 - 06:43

Here's a little position paper on the parking garage issue. It's goal is to show that Planning is not taking into consideration all of the issues with regard to their plan to build a parking garage downtown. Once my article has an article number, I will create a companion piece that addresses the merits of the article itself.
This article will be discussed by the Finance Committee on December 15th at apprximately 5:15 PM. It would be great to have a few citizens in the room to express their views.
