The warm weather is here.
Something Natural (Snatty) is open.
There are teeny tiny ants exploring my bathroom
The shorts come out.
I can work in my studio
The juicebar opens today.

In an act of supreme selfishness, the taxi drivers sued the town last week, as reported in the I&M. This lawsuit will do nothing more than waste our tax money as the town has to spend money to defend its decision.
Taxi drivers, drop your suit. Is it worth it? How much goodwill with the carriage trade are you going to lose over this?
I don't know anyone who is not a taxi driver who thinks that meters are a bad idea.
And let's face it, if we had to come up with a fair fare system from scratch, the old zone system would not be it. For so many reasons.
What are you people thinking?

Well the field is set. The I&M has reported on who will run for selectman. Here's my take on this very interesting field.
I was very excited when Stephen Maury jumped into the race because he's a smart guy who is on the correct side of several issues. I like the fact that he has been a Planning Board alternate and sees the near insanity that happens there at every meeting. We need young people to get involved and I hope he wins a seat, if not this year then next year. We need him.
I also supported Tobias Glidden last year and I will support him again this year. He's brilliant. He's dedicated. He's a genuineley nice person. And he comes from a great family.

Since the Straight Wharf Theater was burned to the ground several decades ago, the island's theater organizations have had to make do with scrouncging performance spaces from church basements and other public and private spaces. But soon Nantucket will actually have a real theater and a new origanization to run it.
Mahon about Town broke the story today of the new Nantucket Theatre Instiutute. I'm looking forward to it.

The town and other conservation agencies are seeking your opinion on open space, parks, recreation and more. Please weigh in.

If you have not heard, Fint Ranney passed away last night. Friends are gathering at Brant Point around 5:30 to see the Steamship take Flint's remains around the point one last time. Bring two pennies.

The I&M is reporting that the EPA is coming down hard on Harbor Fuel for being ill prepared in the case of a spill.
Does the island really need a tank farm? Doesn't fuel oil and gas arrive just as easily by ferry?

The meeting of the Selectmen is today. 1PM. 4 Fairgrounds.
Get there early as the parking spaces will go very quickly, as will the seats. This wil be a Standing-room-only event.
There are PDFS of signs to print out and bring with you, below. Wave them in solidarity. I think there will also be buttons that volunteers will hand out.

A concerned Nantucket citizen has created a petition on Change.org and it has gotten close to 100 signatures in around an hour. In light of the most recent story on the I&M's web site, it looks like someone is going to sign a lease there soon and CVS is not denying it. I'm not certain if a group like CVS can get around our formula retail bylaw, but they do have lot of lawyers. Maybe a salvo across their bow is the right thing right now. Can't hurt to sign.

Now that the presidential election is over and resolved in the best way possible (ahem) it's time for us to turn our thoughts toward local politics.
I still have until the 14th to get an article to town meeting that attempts to give town meeting a say in whether a parking garage is built. I was going to skip it but I feel now that with the Grand Union situation up in the air, people could take steps to make a garage more possible.
What do you all think?
Take my questionnaire. Let me know.
