Dang Spammers.
June 3, 2010 - 14:42
I've had a heck of a time with the new yack trying to make it possible for new users to sign up but to keep spammers from getting in. Apparently the past four and a half years of being on the internet have caused YACK to be quite a target for spammers. I have been receiving about a 50-to-1 ratio of spammers to actual users. And each one of these automated spambots has to be checked out and deleted. And the thing about machines, if you ask Sarah Connor or her son John, is they just keep on coming at you.
So I've done a little work today to make it easier for real humans to get on the site and read the posts, while simultaneously making it difficult for machines to get on and start posting viagra ads all over the site.
However, the system is not fully tested. If anyone sees anything they think is spam, please alert me right away. an email to grant@yackon.com would be good. Or, for those of you who have my cell number, a text would suffice. Thanks.
G.
