I Love The New Site ...
June 3, 2010 - 16:15
I love the new YACK site, Grant, but I still can't figure out how to vote in a poll (the ICE thingie), or the best way to save a log-in page to find out what the latest posts might be, without having to navigate all around.
What are you other YACKer peeps doing to log in and check in? What page do you save as your go-to when you check in to YACK?
I'm also not sure what you mean about the spammer stuff, Grant, because I don't see any spam stuff from the site. Is it only something you see from your end?
Overall, everything seems really clean and neat to me, although I haven't tried to post a photo, but I think I have to go get a camera to do that, right?
So great to finally be able to YACKon! Wonderful job, Grant.

Now when you click on the "post to status" link in the grey navigation box what do you get?
Now when you click on the "post to status" link in the grey navigation box what do you get?
I get my member name and present status above an empty status box, and it looks like I can change it if I want to do so. Also looks now like I am getting a double-quote from you when I quote you, even though I try to delete one each time in the preview.

When I clicked on "my account" I got my own status box. Then, I went to the home page, and it was my status box, instead of someone else's.

Also, I notice that on the home page, it always shows another member in the "status update" portion of the page, instead of me, when I'm logged in. For instance, right now, mine shows mcglinn with a status of "on island" and there is an edit/delete thingie where it looks like I could change his status up to 140 characters. And, it's always a different person there whenener I go to YACK's home. Should it be that way?
No, it shouldn't. I think the wires are getting crossed somehow with regard to the status block on the home page and I may have to pull that off the site until I figure it out. Tell me, when you click on "my account" in the grey box on the left, do you get your own status update box or someone else's?

Thanks for the tips, Grant. I still can't get the photo post to work, but I'll keep trying.
What about voting in a poll? I can't find a place to click for a vote in the old essexed poll.

I'll keep snooping around and working on it. Cool.

The grey box on the left has a link called "recent posts"
This is esentially posts since last time on the old site. The URL is:
If you save that as a bookmark or a button in your favorites bar it should bring you right back to the recent posts.
You should not, nor should you have to, log out. If you just leave the site when you are done, it will recognize you when you come back unless you have some kind of spyware program that deletes your cookies every 24 hours.
The spammers are people I see. Or rather automated spamming bots that sign up to the site every few hours or so. You can't see them becuase I'm keeping them off the site, but they have become a real time drain for me, so I have taken another tack.
The photo post is a little convoluted. But go back to the photo post early on in Yack on Yack and it walks you through it step by step.
Glad you like it, Peep!

What I did, Peep, was to log on, then bookmark that page and use the bookmark to get right on to the forums page. Doesn't seem to work on my son's laptop tho.
I also offer a hearty thanks to Grant for keeping us all connected! Good on ya, Grant!
