Grocery Store/CVS follow Up Survey
November 29, 2012 - 21:30
This is going around facebook right now:
In today's Inky, Winthrop Management expressed concern as to whether or not the Grand Union location would support a new grocery store. Let's help them with some market research. Please click the following link and answer a brief survey. We'll share the results with Winthrop. Also, please consider sharing this post so that we can get a good response! THANKS! http://tinyurl.com/ackfood

GU is responsible to return the property in clean, broom swept, condition. I took a quick look inside yesterday, and the shelves, refrigeration, counters, etc. are all removed. A couple guys were sweeping and cleaning. It did not appear there has been any construction begun, nor was there a building permit posted.

Anyone else been aware of the recent activity going on inside the old store ? Even at 6:30 a.m. ! Something and someone is very busy and I thought I'd see talk of it in the Inky today but nothing....Any ideas ?

The results will be released to Winthrop, the town and a few other select people once the number of respondents reaches a critical mass and the number of responses per day starts to slow.
I'm not certain that I will release the results to the general public as this information is valuable and I may want to use some of it to generate business for myself.

Makes sense. I definitely miss GU. Much more convenient for in town residents.
When will the results be released?

Good market research provides a snapshop of a specific point in time. If we had included GU in the survey, the results would have been somewhat confusing, as no one is shopping there right now. A good survey also projects into a hypothetical future. In no hypothetical future is it conceivable that Grand Union would re-open in that location. That's why we did not include GU in the options.
One can easily suppose that anyone who shopped at GU would lilkely shop at a new grocery store downtown unless the cost was demonstrably higher, or the selection was demonstrably different. That's why we asked so many questions about the remiifcations of price, convenience, and the quality of various offerings. Clearly, GU was not bringing everyone downtown. I think I may have shopped there once this year.
The purpose of this survey is to discover to what the year-round and seasonal population will gravitate. The results, so far, are very intriguing.

Good survey.
Wish you had included GU as a shopping option. I shopped there 95% of the time, about once a week.
Sheila goes to S+S about twice a week.

And there's plenty of land in Wallyworld.

A BJ's or something of that stripe out towards the airport would make the most sense. Takes away the "need" for a downtown parking garage, provides reasonable value at affordable prices, and the jobs lost from the GU closing would be regained. imho

Interesting tidbits of data surfacing so far with about 280 responses in the books. 56% of respondents would pay a 10% premium or more to have a grocery downtown that was superior in quality than Stop & Shop.

And a surprising 20% of respondents are "neutral" on a parking garage downtown with a clear majoirty being against.

Said "limited to one submission per user" on my first try...
Maybe it took anyway...
