Patty Roggeveen Conflict Watch, Addendum

Submitted by yack host on August 10, 2010 - 22:45

I seemed to have forgotten about another conflict, real or perceived, that our current BOS chair has been involved in.
7: The Dreamland Foundation has received a CPC grant of half a million dollars. The CPC is an appointed board. And the Appointing body is the Board of Selectmen. Which means Chairperson Roggeveen has actually appointed people to the CPC, a committee that turned around and presented her organization, the Dreamland Foundation, with $500,000.00. Add to this the fact that the Dreamland has yet to secure any kind of conservation restriction or deed restriction on their property which, as I understand it, is a prerequisite to receiving CPC funds.
So to recap:
1. Married to a town employee.
1B. Was a town employee when running for BOS
2. Executive director of a non profit that goes before boards and committees that are superseded/appointed by BOS
3. Husband chair of HDC, yet recuses himself on Dreamland rulings.
4. CBT Architect/Wilkes Square entanglement.
5. Flip flop on Waste Options which disposed of Dreamland C&D waste.
5B. As Dreamland director, hired same attorney that works for town as special council on Waste Options issues.
6. Named on fundraising letter from Dreamland Foundation to businesses which are regulated By BOS
7. Accepted $500,000 from CPC which she, in part, appointed.
I could not make this stuff up if I tried. And yet, no public outcry. Go figure.
Stay tuned, Nantucket.

1. We live in a small, insular
We live in a small, insular community. Hard, if not impossible to recuse yourself all the time.
She is doing good things, though I am not so sure about the pension dealio...
The Dreamland and Greenhound are good moves for our community, no question.
She is a doer, and as far as I can tell, we are reaping benefits from her doing.
2. A doer?
This from the guy who wants to install security cameras everywhere so we can see people when they do bad things. Yet, when shown a list of seven-plus reasons why our faith in one of our elected officials should be shaken, you can't see them?
From where I am sitting, Patty appears to be more of an obstructer than a doer. (BTW, she has nothing to do with Greenhound and she did not buy the Dreamland. She is more of an opportunist in those situations.) I guess if you just gloss over the newspapers, one's impression of the truth could be less than reliable.
