The Independent to suspend publication Sept 22
September 8, 2010 - 09:50
Another Nantucket upstart publication will go under Sept 22, joining the Beacon and others who tried to get into the market. The suspension was announced on the front page of the paper on news stands now.

Really sad to see this happen. Wonder what will happen to Peter Brace and other good folks working there?
Well, the Indy lasted just over seven years - the last three as a freebie. I'll miss the in-depth feature enterprise reporting.

Well. That sucks. But I had a feeling it would happen sooner or later. The news business is a tough game.

Hi All - Well some of you know I have been writing for the Indy for 7 years. So I'll certainly miss it
I am also a big fan of the I&M. But I also am very sad to see Nantucket become a one newspaper town again. Of course the I&M is fair and balanced. But they also have their viewpoints and they have their important advertisers.
So now Nantucket has just one voice - again.
I remember the Town Crier, and the Beacon, and now the Indy.
But they are only suspended, not terminated. So they may rise again - with the business cycle.
